Ever since the Ketogenic or Keto Diet broke out into mainstream popularity, there has been a surge in the demand of Keto meal replacements and bars. Those that are on Keto may have a hard time finding adequate nutrition bars for this high-fat, low-carbohydrate and moderate-protein diet, or at least have found some options but do not know which one is worth the try.

About Keto Bars

Keto Bars tries to fill in that gap with their products. Their founder, Jon Hart, originally made Keto Bars for himself as he was having a difficult time finding the right product for his high fat/low carb needs. It was because of this that he decided to do it himself and make a product without the products that have not been heard of before and use more natural products.

What are Keto Bars and What We Think

Keto Bars are formulated to have very low net carbs (total carbs – fiber = net carbs). They are gluten-free and the Chocolate Peanut Butter flavored bars are completely dairy-free. Currently, there are three flavors: Chocolate Peanut Butter, Dark Chocolate Coconut, and their newest flavor, Chocolate Mint.

Keto Bars are made with Erythritol as the sweetener and a replacement for sugar. This sugar substitute is very low on the glycemic index and does not raise your blood sugar, making Keto Bars suitable not just for Keto dieters, but for those with diabetes as well.

We found that the texture of a Keto Bar is like that of fudge or a brownie. They don’t have the chalky taste usually associated with bars formulated for a ketogenic diet. Each bar has around 10-11 ingredients that don’t have long, hard to pronounce names, and you know exactly what you’re getting.

Keto Bars are recommended to be consumed within two months of you getting it. They should be stored in a cool place as we have found that in warmer weather, they soften and some of the oils release. Freezing the bars however, extends their shelf life.

The macros for the Keto Bars Chocolate Peanut Butter flavor are: 21g Fat, 3g Net Carbs and 8g protein. It is 250 calories. It has no added sugar, is gluten free and vegan friendly. While it doesn’t have coconut in its name, there is coconut in the bar, which gives it a slightly crunchy texture. Compared to other products, the taste is much better and more delicious. It is reminiscent of a fat bomb in both taste and texture.

For the Keto Bars Dark Chocolate Coconut flavor, the macros are 20g fat, 2g Net Carbs and 7g protein. It has slightly less calories than the Chocolate Peanut Butter Bar, coming in at 210 and is made with heavy cream, making it non-vegan. There is a main coconut taste accented by a little bit of bitterness coming from the dark chocolate. There is a very rich chocolate taste and is sweeter than the Chocolate Peanut Butter flavor.

Their newest flavor, Keto Bars Chocolate Mint, clocks in at 19g fat, 3g Net Carbs and 6g Protein. There is no added sugar, it’s gluten-free and vegan-friendly. When you eat them, they remind you of thin mints, satisfying your cravings for mint flavor. It goes great with coffee and hits just the right spot if you want something sweet.

Keto Bars are only available through their company’s website. A 10-pack of any of the flavors will cost $22.99. They also come in a Keto Bars Sampler Pack if you wish to try the flavors first. Shipping the Keto Bars takes 2-3 business days and shipping cost varies from $3.99 (for all orders over $50) to $4.99, in the United States, and more for international shipping. The price of a single Keto Bar ($2.29 – $2.39) compares to the price of other energy bars, the price is fair for what you’re getting.

Their bars come in these large vacuum-sealed bags that are folded. It gives us the homemade feel vs a mass-produced product and we like it that way, as it also assures us that the freshness of the ingredients that they use.

Experimenting, we also liked the bars heated up and we added some toppings for more keto-friendly indulgence like whipped cream, or additional peanut butter, or even with sugar-free ice cream. Really, the possibilities are endless.

Keto Bars are an easy breakfast or snack bar or even as a meal substitute if you’re on a Keto diet. We are sure – once you try one you’d want more.
